Road Race Rules
- Elite Timing is the official timing system. NO CHIP- NO RESULT. Anyone starting ahead of his/her seeded time will be disqualified, Results will be displayed on www.elitetiming.co.za
- Elite Timing will issue each rider in the 105km race with a loan Timing Chip. This will be collected after the event.
- The 55km race is UNTIMED
- No person under the age of 10 may participate in the 105km race. Any participant under the age of 10 in the 50km fun ride must be accompanied by an adult.
- All cyclists must keep to the left of the road at all times. Even though there is road closure, there will be official vehicles on the road.
- Cyclist must ride in a predicable & responsible manner and obey all traffic rules, traffic officers and marshals and adhere to normal rules of the road. They must stop at intersections if instructed to do so.
- NO PARTICIPANT MAY COMPETE WITHOUT WEARING A HARD SHELL CYCLING HELMET. Only commercially produced helmets, preferably meeting ANSA or Shell standards, may be worn.
- No participant may, directly or indirectly take food or drink or other assistance from any moving vehicle, bicycle or machine, at any time, other than from another participant.
- Only approved team vehicles are permitted on the route.
- Slipstreaming behind a vehicle is not permitted.
- No tri-bars are permitted.
- The route will be shown on the map. It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to know the route and the organizers take no responsibility for persons deviating from the route or any consequences of such actions.
- Entry fees will not be refunded should the race be cancelled or stopped for reasons beyond the control of the race organizers.
- Substitutions will be permitted at a cost of R50.00.
- CATEGORY WINNERS NOT PRESENT AT THE PRIZE GIVING WILL FORFEIT THE PRIZE. 10% of prize money will be deducted for CSA.
- The race is held under the auspices of CSA and CKZN.
- U16 and Junior riders must present their bicycles for inspection at the end of the race in order to qualify for prize money.
- LICENCES The new licensing rules will be strictly enforced. All riders must have a CSA or Cyclosport License. Riders who do not have any of these will have to pay R35 for a day permit.
- Cut off times will be strictly adhered to. NO rider may continue if he/she is outside the cut-off time and will be transported to the finish by a sweep vehicle
Mountain Bike Rules
- Timing will be done by Elite Timing and results will be displayed on www.elitetiming.co.za.
- The 10km race is not timed. Riders in this category will be issued with a WHITE bike board with an orange stripe along the bottom.
- Riders in the 55km and 25km races will be issued with an Elite Board which must be returned after the race.
- When riding on the urban roads, cyclists must keep to the left hand side of the road and obey traffic rules, traffic officers and marshals and adhere to normal rules of the road. They must stop at intersections if instructed to do so.
- NO PARTICIPANT MAY COMPETE WITHOUT WEARING A HARD SHELL CYCLING HELMET
- No person under the age of 16 may enter the 50km race, and no rider U10 may enter the 25km or 55km races.
- The route shall be as shown on the map.
- The race is held under the rules of CSA, and KZN-MBC.
- Licencing rules will be strictly applied. Any rider not in possession of an MTB licence will have to pay a fee of R35.
- No outside assistance is permitted, except in the Feed or Technical Zones.
- Mechanical assistance is permitted between competitors.
- A rider must complete the race on the same bicycle that he/she started the race on.
- The physical pushing, pulling or towing of other riders is not permitted.
- Drafting by and between riders as accepted cycling practice is permitted, but drafting only to gain individual; advantage is unsporting and is not acceptable.
- Drafting between members of the opposite sex, ie a male may not allow a female to draft during the race in order to gain advantage over other female competitors.
- No vehicles other than organizational vehicles, Ambulance or camera crews are permitted on the race route.
